Activated Charcoal: Charcoal is amazing stuff with many uses. I’ve always used it with my dogs in the form of charcoal biscuits, as it’s great for stopping unwanted odours when your furry friend passes wind – and we all know how pungent that can be! Simply giving a couple of biscuits in the morning and before bed has made such a difference and I can say hand on heart that its very rare we EVER smell anything unpleasant of that nature now.
There are, however, many other uses for activated charcoal too and many of them fall into the first aid category (not just for our dogs, but for humans too).
Common charcoal is made from peat, coal, wood, coconut shell, or petroleum. “Activated charcoal” is similar to common charcoal, but is made especially for use as a medicine. To make activated charcoal, manufacturers heat common charcoal in the presence of a gas that causes the charcoal to develop lots of internal spaces or “pores.” These pores help activated charcoal “trap” chemicals.
One of our followers sent me the article below which is so good as an overview, I thought I’d share it with you all. Activated charcoal is not expensive and is certainly something I always have on hand for the dogs and the family too.

The following article comes from Rootedblessings.com and covers such uses as treatment for food poisoning, upset stomachs, teeth cleaning, and allergic reactions to certain food groups. This one is certainly worth a read.
