DOGGY BLOOD PRESSURE

I love it when I get asked interesting questions and it’s not often I don’t know the exact answer but on the course today, I had one of those. In my opinion if you don’t know something, you certainly shouldn’t try to PRETEND you do and fudge an answer. Instead, I’ve done a bit of research and now I DO know! Q: where do you take a dog’s blood pressure and what should normal blood pressure for a dog be?
.
A: Firstly, you are required to choose a location to place the cuff. You can measure a dog’s blood pressure on either its right front forearm, the outside of its right hind leg, or the base of the tail. Most dogs should have blood pressure in the range of 110/60 to 160/90.

Just as a side point worth mentioning, if your dog is experiencing nose bleeds, it is well worth speaking to your vet as this COULD denote a problem with their blood pressure if you haven’t noticed any obvious cause for the bleeding such as rough play or a bang on the nose.
