Derbyshire, and more specifically “Doodlefest 2016” at Catton Park is host to another of our canine first aid courses this year – the third year we’ve attended this Doodle Extravaganza, it will be fun, lively and incredibly effective at getting across the important first aid information that could well save the life of your furry companion. You DO NOT have to own a Doodle or be a member to attend this session.
K9 1st Aid by Rhodes 2 Safety – Ranked Number 2 in the UK from well over a thousand first aid training providers.
We deal with shock, bleeding, choking, bites, road traffic accidents as well as the big topics of CPR and Artificial Respiration
Students DO NOT bring their dogs, but I will have one or two of my Ridgebacks with me for demonstration purposes.
.
Each student will gain a certificate of attendance and full course notes to take away, so note taking throughout the session is unnecessary. For students attending as part of their vocational studies, the course generates 3 CPD points.
.
Everybody will be seated in a horseshoe so that EVERYBODY is on the front row – nobody should be struggling to see.
.
During the bandaging section, I will demonstrate on one of my dogs and then students will be put into pairs to allow one to be the first aider and the other to be the doggy patient. Once the bandage is done, students will then swap so that each not only has a go at doing the dressing but also feels how it is to be the patient and understands how the dressing feels when applied. A dog cannot give you any feedback about your skills so by doing it on a person, we can get their honest opinion once the bandage is complete. Human skin also reacts by changing colour and temperature if it is too tight and swells up. To practice on a toy would not give you any of this feedback and I would not be happy about anybody practicing on a live animal until they are proficient in it – I am, however, more than happy for them to torture a human!
.
At the end of the session, there will be first aid products on sale too such as our Rhodes 2 Recovery book, bandages, first aid kits, vet wrap, tick pickers etc.
.
Fantastic presentation keeping interest and giving some great information.

I attended Kerry’s first aid course in January. The course covered everything from dog CPR to insect bites. The knowledge and experience that Kerry has is second to none. When discussing the course content Kerry applied her real life experience to the scenarios which made it so relatable from a learning perspective. The course was spread out over the duration of about 4 hours and a lot of information was provided within this time however it never felt overwhelming. Kerry has a presence that keeps the room calm even when discussing potentially life threatening situations that we may face as dog lovers. Kerry covered so many aspects and there wasn’t a single topic that I felt required further clarification. It was a pleasure to be on the course and I could have listened to Kerry all day. Such an interesting, fun loving and inspiring individual. I have been around dogs most of my life and I love everything about them but actually knowing what to do to help my pooches in an emergency situation has gave me an increased sense of confidence knowing that I have the knowledge to help my four legged friends in their time of need.
I also highly recommend Kerry’s book called “The Dogs Blogs” this is such a well written and put together book for dog lovers to refer to in relation to dog health literally from head to toe.
Thank you Rhodes to safety .

Fabulous K9 first aid course. I learnt loads and I feel fully prepared for any mishaps, injuries or illnesses my dogs may have. My only wish is that more dog owners did this course not just canine industry professionals.
