Sarcoptic Mange (Scabies)
As per a request, today’s and tomorrow’s info is about mange (and can I just say that typing this for you all is making me itch like a good ‘un!!!)
Sarcoptic mange (scabies) is caused by a tiny, microscopic mite, which lives permanently within the top layers of the skin.
Sarcoptic Mange Cycle
Sarcoptic Mange Cycle
* It causes relentless scratching and rubbing.
* Initially, it is often the ear tips, elbows and hocks which are most affected but, if neglected, symptoms can spread over the entire body surface.
* It is highly contagious and easily transferred between dogs.
* It can be transferred to humans and appears as small, red, circular areas on the skin which are very itchy.
* Owners who develop any skin irritation while their dog is affected should seek medical advice for themselves also.
